Well, as some of you know, the best made plans don't always work out as planned. I know that better than most! I know I promised to blog our progress yesterday, but somehow the day had a mind of it's own. I'll try to catch you up on yesterday, before we get on the road for home today.
Wednesday morning after our leisurely coffee at Mama D's we headed to the State Park and just walked along the shore until there was no walking left in me! Then we still had to trek back through the sand to the car. Of course we didn't have towels or chairs to sit and rest, and my excitement at spotting a piece of driftwood in the distance quickly turned into dismay as I saw the size of this twig! A resting spot it was not! So, we cheered each other on as we trudged back to the car. At last.. a soft leather seat, an ice cold water and an appetite from all that walking! We sat for a few minutes until our breathing evened out (yes.. I am out of shape! I'm the first to admit it.) then we dragged out the Map to see where we were headed next. That's when we decided Coastal York Harbor. This turned out to be one of the prettiest days yet! We found a fabulous Inn that was featured as the Inn of the Month in Country Living 2007 and were lucky enough to get a room with a view. BUT.. and this is a BIG But... It was on the 3rd floor! Did you know that the Inns in Maine do not have elevators? So.. when traveling, be sure and pack light!
Back to our travels.. As we meandered along the coast in York, we saw house after house for sale and wondered what a home on the cost of Maine would cost. Well we found out! A small 3 bedroom Cape with a view of the bay 1,500.000 a 4 bedroom 3,750.000 BUT... MY HOUSE (see below) wasn't for sale. If it had been, I can't even imagine the cost of something like this! But can you imagine living there though?
We found our way to what I've heard is one of the most photographed and painted lighthouses in the world! I didn't even know that while I was there but should have guessed! There must have been 50 people photographing it and one person painting it. When you see the picture, you'll understand why. It was just beautiful. But, if truth be told, there was very little of the coast of Maine that wasn't beautiful.
Since we'd worked up such an appetite on our walk on the beach earlier, we decided to dine in a small seafood restaurant near the nubble light house. I enjoyed lazy lobster and Jim enjoyed clam chowder, steamers and lobster. We couldn't leave Maine without at least one seafood meal. It was delicious!
The Nubble Lighthouse in York Maine. Gorgeous isn't it? Can you imagine being the lighthouse keeper in a place like this?
Well, that pretty much made up our day Wednesday. We got back to the Inn at around 6pm, enjoyed the view from our room for a while, checked email and then walked to the Pub at the Inn for an "adult" beverage or two! Another perfect day in paradise.
